Description

The 17th century Château Salettes is one of the oldest wineries in Bandol. It sits on the Mediterranean coast between Toulon and Marseille at the foot of the hilltop village of La Cadière d’Azur. The name “SALETTES” comes from this place where salt, a rich and precious commodity in the Middle Ages, was stored on the estate. It has belonged to the Ricard family since 1604, when Ricard de la Gaillardière, merchants from the Marseille Old Port, bought this land with the dream of living in the countryside close to the olive trees and vines. It was passed through generations of Ricard de la Gaillardère, Ricard and finally Boyer.

The vineyard is planted on a gentle slope overlooking the azure waters of the Golfe de Saint-Cyr-les-Lecques, ideal for the estate’s prized Mourvèdre vines to soak up Bandol’s abundant sunshine. As the appellation’s signature grape, Mourvèdre constitutes 50% of Château Salettes’ plantings.

Production has been Certified Organic farming (EcoCert) since the 2018 vintage.
